What is the show about?

The search for dark matter is the most pressing astrophysical problem of our time – the solution to which will help us understand why the Universe is as it is, where it came from, and how it has evolved over billions of years – the unimaginable depths of deep time, of which a human life is but a flickering instant. But in that instant, we can grasp its immensity and, through science, we can attempt to understand it.

We journey through completely immersive visualisations of dark matter evolution calculated upon some of the world’s fastest supercomputers – cosmological visions on a truly vast scale, in which galaxies themselves are but points of light, distributed across far larger intergalactic structures of Dark Matter.

It sounds like Science Fiction, but it’s not. It’s the real stuff. Real Data, seen in this way for the very first time.

Seeing! A photon's journey across space, time and mind

Follow the journey of a single photon as it is produced in a distant star, before travelling across the vast expanse of space to land on someone’s retina. This fulldome planetarium show explores some of the fascinating processes of the cosmos, from astrophysics to the biology of the eye and brain.

The show is narrated by astronomer and science communicator, Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Phantom of the Universe

What is the show about?

One of our New fulldome planetarium shows for summer, Phantom of the Universe ( Narrated by Tilda Swinton) t showcases an exciting exploration of dark matter, from the Big Bang to galaxies to the Large Hadron Collider.

The show reveals the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” It describes the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda galaxy and then plummets deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine.

From there, it journeys across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, speeding alongside particles before they collide in visually stunning explosions of light and sound, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter.

Unveiling the Invisible Universe

What is the show about?

For thousands of years humans observed the light coming from the night sky with their eyes. In the beginning of the 17th century, the invention of the telescope by Galileo revolutionized our knowledge of the Universe.

Finally, in the 20th century with the advent of rockets, it became possible to go above the earth’s atmosphere and observe X-ray and gamma ray radiation which are the marks of the hot and violent Universe.

But it is not only light that can give us information about the cosmos. Neutrinos and cosmic rays also provide vital information. Finally, the detection by the LIGO experiment of gravitational waves from two merging black holes opened a new window in astrophysics.

This fulldome show presents images of the cosmos as revealed by all these different messengers.

Messengers of Time and Space

What is the show about?

Messengers of Time and Space is a new fulldome planetarium show designed to illuminate the imminent revolution in astronomy driven by time-domain and multi-messenger observations.

Explore the dynamic cosmos and witness the transformative impact of real-time data on our understanding of the Universe.

The planetarium show highlights ways in which we will monitor the night sky for exciting astronomical events that change with time, like the new Vera C Rubin Observatory.

Sometimes, light is not the only indicator of these short-term events. Audiences will learn how information can reach us through other messengers like cosmic rays, elusive particles called neutrinos, and even gravitational waves rippling through the Universe.

NEW Moonbase: The Next Step

What is the show about?

For the last 20 years, humans have continuously lived and worked aboard the International Space Station 250 miles above Earth, preparing for the day we move farther into the solar system.

In the next 10 years that dream will become a reality. Humans will return to the Moon and develop a sustained, strategic presence near the lunar South Pole. The moon will become our first ‘staging post’ from which Mars and the rest of the solar system becomes tantalisingly closer.

Narrated by former NASA Astronaut Nicole Stott, MOONBASE: THE NEXT STEP is the story of this human endeavour, pushing scientific and technological advances to the limit.

Travelling the 250,000 miles and surviving the hostile and alien conditions of reduced gravity, extreme temperatures and toxic lunar dust, we explain the science and technology for this brave mission to happen.

When asked to talk about the universe, astronomers will describe it to you in a thousand different ways. Starting with the diverse planets of the Solar System, charming comets, hot stars and ethereal nebulae, they’ll take you on a journey all the way to galaxies billions of light-years away. Into this mix, they will throw in a bit of mysterious dark matter, a few black holes, a dash of dark energy and finish it off with a pinch of strange elementary particles.

However, for an ordinary Earthling, such a list of fancy terms feels just like flipping through a cookbook, without being able to taste the individual ingredients, let alone the finished product. That’s why we decided to serve you the universe in a completely different way – You will experience it with all your senses!
