Sherwood Observatory Planetarium
We’re home to the first new planetarium of its size in the UK for more than a decade
The huge dome houses an overhead wraparound hemispherical screen, which provides immersive experiences bringing the Universe to life.The projection screen is 10 metres (32.8 feet) in diameter and has 4k resolution projection throughout, with each seat tilted to give a comfortable and immersive view.
We offer different show types, ranging from those that are pre-recorded commercially produced ‘full dome’ animated adventures to presenter-led tours of the night sky. In addition to our advertised programme of planetarium shows, we can take private group bookings where you can choose from our growing catalogue of shows depending on your interests.
During our guest lecture slots and community cinema shows our planetarium operates in a more traditional ‘cinema’ format. If astronomy and space science are not your thing, then keep a lookout for our wider range of immersive experiences that we will be featuring from time to time.With 59 seats, two of which are convertible for wheelchair users, the venue is small enough to ensure that every seat gets a good view and is large enough to provide an unforgettable experience.
