Schools

A visit to Sherwood Observatory perfectly complements curriculum science topics for all ages. Inspire your class with a Planetarium show followed by a hands-on activity tailored to their stage and topic.

Groups

Book a group trip to Sherwood Observatory, the best place to experience the night sky in all its glory. Whether you are a group of Brownies, Scouts, Cadets, WI, U3A, a group of friends, or celebrating a special occasion, we have something for everyone.

Cafe

Visit our onsite cafe to enjoy a snack or light refreshments during your stay. Our cafe is run by students and volunteers from Academy Transformation Trust for Further Education (ATTFE) to support their learning. Check to see if the cafe is open during your visit.

How to find us

Sherwood Observatory is located on Coxmoor Road (B6139) near Sutton-in-Ashfield, adjacent to the Coxmoor Golf Course and approximately 3 miles south of Mansfield.

Visiting with children

We welcome children of all ages to Sherwood Observatory, and many of our events are tailored specifically to inspire our younger viewers.

Children under 16 years qualify for a child ticket for all events.

Children 3 and under qualify for a free ticket on the basis of one paying adult per child. A free ticket must be purchased for each infant for fire safety reasons.

Everyone aged 16 and over must hold an adult ticket for entry to all events.

Whenever visiting the observatory, due to our child protection, safeguarding and health & safety policies, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Please note that each planetarium show has an advisory age limit and the immersive content may be unsettling for some smaller children, in which case a member of staff will assist you in leaving the auditorium.
