Our Courses
Astronomy courses
Our non-accredited basic astronomy courses are designed for people new to the hobby or those who want to broaden their knowledge about the night sky and its treasures. The courses are run by members of our charity and external tutors and cover various aspects of astronomy.
Each week covers a different topic or continuation of the previous week’s topic and, weather permitting, will include some night sky viewing through our 24” Newtonian Telescope or some of our other smaller telescopes.
Courses are delivered in person at Sherwood Observatory.
Fees for these six-week courses are: Adults (18 and over) £90, Juniors (over 12 but under 18) £60. Juniors under the age of 16 but over 12 can only be accepted if accompanied, at all times, by their parent/guardian, who must also be enrolled on the course. If aged under 18, but over 16, you do not have to be accompanied. However, your application must be approved by your parent/guardian by signing and dating an email or written acknowledgement.
For the Junior Introduction to Astronomy course, we will require written consent and all relevant information from parent/carer and assurances of transport arrangements and strict drop-off and pick-up times, as agreed.
