Home Education

Our monthly Home Education sessions are designed by home educators, for home educators, offering a welcoming and engaging environment where families can learn, explore, and connect.

Delivered by our dedicated Home Education Outreach Team (made up from our volunteers, who are members of Sherwood Observatory) these popular sessions have become a thriving part of our organisation. We have welcomed more than 1,000 home-educating children and adults through our doors since Summer 2025.

What the sessions are about

Each month’s session includes a different planetarium show from our extensive programme, so there is always something inspiring to learn.

Following the show, you will either be joined by a knowledgeable guest speaker or enjoy a bespoke presentation researched and written to complement the show topic, creating a rich and immersive learning experience.

There’s plenty to enjoy throughout each session, including themed arts and crafts, board games, word hunts, and a specially written quiz linked to the month’s topic. Our café is also available, offering refreshments for families while they learn and socialise.

In addition to our monthly Home Education sessions, we occasionally host stargazing evenings and daytime solar observing sessions when weather conditions and clear skies allow.

Note: These sessions are exclusively for the home education community, therefore booking is not available through our standard ticketing system. If you would like to attend, please register your interest and our Home Education Outreach Team will reach out to provide further information.
