By car from A60 Nottingham - Mansfield Road

Leave Nottingham, heading for Mansfield along the A60. Continue through Daybrook and Redhill. At the Redhill Roundabout, take the first exit (A60) towards Mansfield.

Continue along the A60 passing the main entrance to Newstead Abbey, and turn left onto the B6020 at the traffic light-controlled junction after the Abbey (signposted Kirkby-In-Ashfield / Motorway M1).

Continue along the B6020 for approximately 3/10 of a mile, then turn right onto the B6139 (signposted Sutton-in-Ashfield).

Continue along the B6139 until reaching a traffic light-controlled junction with the A611. Cross the A611, staying on the B6139. The observatory is located approximately half a mile along the road on the right-hand side, just after the road curves to the right.

By car from M1 Motorway

Leave the M1 motorway at Junction 28, and take the A38 heading towards Mansfield (away from Derby).

Continue along the A38 towards Mansfield, passing the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village on the right, the Snipe public house on the left, and eventually under a footbridge, after which you will arrive at a set of traffic lights adjacent to the Kirkby-In-Ashfield fire station.

Continue across the lights, and then follow the curve of the road to the left, remain on the A38, crossing another set of lights signposted to the Sutton Parkway railway station, and across one further set of traffic lights.

At the next set of traffic lights, turn right onto the B6139.

Continue on the B6139 over a level crossing and a mini roundabout up to a traffic light-controlled junction. Cross the junction, heading up the hill, and the observatory is located on the left of the road approximately 3/4 mile after the traffic lights just before the road curves to the left.

Parking at Sherwood Observatory

There are 65 parking spaces available at Sherwood Observatory.

Please car share if possible, as this reduces the environmental impact of travel and enables more visitors to park.

At busy times, a marshal will direct you to your parking space on arrival, at other times please just park in one of the designated bays.

We have some electric car charging points which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

As you would expect, we also have designated disabled parking spaces.

We can also accommodate coach and minibus parking for group visits by prior arrangement.
