See the night sky whatever the weather with our magical planetarium shows.

Sherwood Observatory will be closed from Sunday 22 December 2024 to  Wednesday 1 January 2025 inclusive.

If you contact us during that period, you may not get a quick response as the centre is largely run by volunteers who are taking a well-earned break. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Please check our website FAQ for any queries.

The whole experience was superb, inside the planetarium the seats were excellent, the visual display was very very impressive, as were the staff. I would recommend this venue to anyone young or old.

Wow, what else can I say. The planetarium is worth a visit alone! A lot of work has gone into building the site up and it has a lot of history before you even start exploring the astronomical side.

We went to see the ‘We are Guardians” today and it was fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the staff were all welcoming and helpful. Had a nice cup of coffee in the cafe. Can’t wait to go back. Would highly recommend a visit. Also has a lift if required.

Out of this world!

This is a wonderful facility. The planetarium is leading edge with a screen and sound to rival any iMax theatre. The seating is very comfortable. We watched The Great Solar System Adventure with its fantastic animation and CGI.

Hidden gem! Just got back from an open evening and had an amazing time. Volunteers were wonderful; so friendly and engaging, talking my 2 young children through everything. People of all ages attended. Absolutely fabulous evening.

Amazing planetarium

We went to see a show and talk at the planetarium. It was fantastic. My space obsessed 5 yr old was thrilled to bits. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Great new facility, we’re lucky to have it near by.

If you’re looking for something different with a few hours to spare and have a hankering to find out more about our life on earth and in the universe you could do no better than to pay a visit and be educated and thoroughly entertained. Thankyou to the observatory and cafe staff for a most enjoyable experience, I will be back.

Went to see the planetarium show, CAPCOM GO! It was really interesting and we were all very impressed. We went as a family of 5 and it cost around £33 for all of us which I think is reasonable. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back to watch some more of the different shows on offer.
