During the Spring and Summer, the longer evenings make it difficult to view objects through our telescopes. Instead, we hold a number of solar viewing events during the daytime to share our facilities and introduce astronomy to visitors.

During the Spring and Summer, the longer evenings make it difficult to view objects through our telescopes.

Instead, we hold a number of solar viewing events during the daytime to share our facilities and introduce astronomy to visitors.
What to expect

Your visit will include an immersive planetarium show, a demonstration of our Newtonian Telescope, a tour of our Radio Astronomy Centre, and a chance to view the sun through our special Solar telescopes.

Our team will be available to answer your questions and guide you through your tour.

Activities include:

  • Viewing the Sun through Solar telescopes (weather permitting).
  • Planetarium show of 20 minutes
  • Visit to the radio astronomy centre
  • Opportunities to ask questions about astronomy or about the telescopes.
  • Free factsheets and/or skymaps to take away.
  • Merchandise, including excellent photos of astronomical objects.
  • Refreshments and cakes available from our on-site cafe.
