Open Days

Why not join us for a ‘Summer Open Day’ at Sherwood Observatory?

A great way for all budding astronomers and space enthusiasts to step into learning about space and science with our friendly volunteers.

Note: During the Spring and Summer, the longer evenings make it difficult to view objects through our telescopes. Instead, we hold a number of solar viewing events during the daytime to share our facilities and introduce astronomy to visitors.

What to expect

Your visit will include an immersive planetarium show, a demonstration of our Newtonian Telescope and a chance to look through our telescopes to view the sun through our special Solar telescopes.

Our team will be available to answer your questions and guide you through your tour.

Activities include:

  • Viewing the Sun through Solar telescopes (weather permitting)
  • Presenter-led Planetarium session of approximately 25 minutes
  • Opportunities to ask questions about astronomy or about the telescopes
  • Free factsheets and/or skymaps to take away.
  • Merchandise, including excellent photos of astronomical objects.
  • Refreshments and cakes available from our on-site cafe.

Amazing place. So much history involved. Now with the added knowledge that a planetarium is going ahead, this will be epic. All run by volunteers too.
