Visiting Groups

We provide Group Visits consisting of a short talk and views of the night sky (weather permitting) using our famous 24" Newtonian telescope. Groups include local schools, the Scout Association and Girlguiding (we cover all astronomy badges), WI, U3A, Round Table, and any other groups or private parties who wish to learn about the wonders of the universe.

Our visiting season runs from late September to the end of March each year. We aim to accommodate group visit requests based on your group requirements but we are unfortunately somewhat restricted in availability owing to prebooked society events and also to the availability of our volunteer members who provide the talks. Generally we would be able to welcome groups on Monday and Thursday evenings, Wednesday evenings to finish by 7.30pm at the latest, and on some Tuesday and Friday evenings.

Group organisers are welcome to a complimentary visit to the observatory to check our facilities and discuss arrangements prior to organising their visit.

If you would like to arrange a visit, or would like more information, please contact our Group Visit Organiser by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or by selecting "Group Visits" on the Contact Us page.

If you do not have access to email then you could phone the observatory and leave a message on the answerphone. We will return your call as soon as possible but please be aware that arranging visits by phone usually takes considerably longer than by email. The observatory phone number is 01623 552276.
